Step 1: Tap on the Messages app icon on the home screen to open the Messages app. The Messages app icon looks like a white speech bubble on a green background.
Step 2: When the Messages app opens, tap on the pencil and paper icon in the top right corner to start a new message. The pencil and paper icon is white on a blue background.
Step 3: At the top of the message window, tap in the To: field and type the name or phone number of the person you want to text.
Step 4: Tap in the empty message field below your recipient and use the keyboard to type your text message.
Step 5: When your message is complete, tap the blue Send button on the right side of the message window to send the text. The Send button has an upward arrow icon.
Step 6: You will see your sent message and can continue conversing by exchanging messages.
